When I met filmmaker Christine Swanson at this year’s Ebertfest, she was eager to discuss her upcoming project with me. It was a biopic on the iconic singer Miki Howard, and the actress cast in the coveted role was Teyonah Parris, who impressed me greatly in Spike Lee’s “Chi-Raq.”

“There are some songs that when played, take us back to a specific time or place. Miki Howard’s “Come Share My Love” reminds me of my childhood; riding in the car with my mother while Miki’s stunning voice smoothly glided out of the radio.”

Teyonah Parris is set to star in an upcoming biopic of Miki Howard.
